Studio Tips
So... you're coming into record some tracks? great! There are a few things outlined below that will hopefully allow you to make the most of your studio time.
There is a vintage Premier drum kit in the live room that is pre-mic'd and ready for use, either with the snare and cymbals provided (mid range zildjian/paiste) or if preferred the drummers own snare and cymbals. Using this kit will save studio time and money however if the drummer has specific needs or would like to bring their own kit this can also be accommodated. If there are any questions it's always best to ask before you get to the studio.
The same applies for bass and guitar. The studio has a Laney valve combo, which runs either stand alone or through an American Randall 4 x 12 cab with Celestion speakers and a HH bass amp which can run stand alone or through a hand built 2 x 15 cab. With this said we know that you most probably have selected your equipment with your sound in mind so it's always a good idea to bring along your guitars, bass guitars and all of the amps necessary, including any effects pedals.
Before coming to the studio it is a good idea to put new strings on your guitars in order to get the most out of them, do this a few days to a week before the date of your studio time to give them time to settle in. Also make sure your happy with the playing action of your instrument and check the intonation. If you are unsure about adjusting the intonation, then go to a guitar shop , It's not that expensive to get fixed, however it needs to be done with a brand new set of stirrings straight out of the packet so check the intonation before you put new strings on else you'll be paying twice.
Coming into the studio should be an exciting time for the band so don't let small arguments spoil the day. Decide on the songs you want to get down as a band, before you come to the studio, also decide on who is doing what!
It is very important to be very well practiced in the songs you wish to record. It is a good idea to practice the songs without vocals so that all the musicians can change between parts without having to hear the vocals.
